The more a woman has to struggle to survive, the more radiantly she shines—this is true of all countries and eras, and I believe it is the job of the film medium to depict such women.
DECADENT SISTERS focuses on the ¡°pan-pan girls¡± (prostitutes) of Tokyo in 1945, struggling to survive in the post-WWII era. There are already a large number of wonderful films portraying pan-pan girls, but Decadent Sisters examines an area that was left untouched or glossed over by previous films for various reasons. Specifically, it looks at the relationship between the pan-pan girls, the US occupying forces and the emperor.
Times change, though, and only now is it possible to shine a light on such a sensitive topic. Decadent Sisters uses a unique perspective to delve into the dark, post-war era and depict the girls who had to fight to get by in such hard times.
We of the modern era can find our origins in the circumstances of the post-war pan-pan girls. That is why we must not limit this to being a ¡°Japanese¡± movie; it should be a global production and, therefore, it requires an outsider¡¯s perspective. I believe DECADENT SISTERS must be a joint production featuring international producers. |

| SYNOPSIS |
An active younger sister who throws herself to the US Occupation Army soldiers. An intellectual older sister who will undergo everything to support a former Kamikaze pilot. Two beautiful sisters surviving through the hardships of Post WWII Japan. Where will their love and destiny lead them to?
From Japan, which introduced to the world the classic Ai No Corrida(The Realm of Senses) comes another epic story of love and sensuality.
The year is 1945, the place is Tokyo, Japan during the Second World war. Miyamoto Yukiko and Kumiko are beautiful sisters, both of whom are well educated and respectful schoolgirls. The sisters live with their father who runs a film production company and raises the sisters on his own since their mother has already passed away. They live in a house in Meguro, in the middle of Tokyo, filled with memories of their beloved mother.
During the wartime era, their father produced several wartime propaganda films such as ¡°How to Extinguish a Bombshell¡± ¡°Final Battle in the Mainland¡± and ¡°How To Harvest Potatoes.¡± The older sister Yukiko believes in these films and the controlled media coverage of the war, and waits with hope for the return of her first love Second Lieutenant Gotou who has been shipped off. The younger sister Kumiko is a free spirit who wants to enjoy her love-life, eat good food, and wear fashionable clothes; she feels uncomfortable with the lifestyle of wartime Japan and living through a confusing period of adolescence. The war ends with the defeat of Japan. The Miyamoto residence fortunately survived the air raids, but the father is wrongly accused of casting a US prisoner in the propaganda films he produced. The father is arrested and is taken into custody. In the chaos of Post WWII, the sisters lose their means of living but at the same time realize that they have to live on their own.
One day in the post-war chaos, Kumiko, the younger one decides to lose her virginity to an American soldier, then names the family home ¡°Spring House,¡± and chooses to live as a prostitute. She declares ¡°From now on, we will occupy the hearts of the Americans!!¡± Since she was born, she has only lived through wartime and now her free spirit is finally unleashed. Yukiko, the elder one, at first finds it hard to countenance what her younger sister is doing, but later she also realizes that the war is over and the world they live in has actually changed and she joins Kumiko to release herself as well. Despite these severe circumstances, dragged along by destiny, they believe in the future and in love. A large-scale epic about women who beautifully and tenaciously fall into a life of corruption.
